Swiss Barakah Charity Becomes Development
Partner of the Tripoli Economic Zone
Tripoli is considered one of the poorest cities in the eastern Mediterranean – and at the same time one with great potential. This is exactly where the Tripoli Special Economic Zone (TSEZ) is taking shape: a long-term development project designed to bring investment, industry and, above all, jobs to northern Lebanon.
The signing brought together Prime Minister Nawaf Salam – formerly President of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague – Minister of Public Works and Transport Fayez Rasamni, and Dr Hassan Dannawi, Chairman of the economic zone. Salam described the vision as an interplay of sea, land and air: a high-performing Port of Tripoli, an economic zone for industry, services and technology, expanded transport links to the interior, and René Mouawad Airport in Qleiat as an additional gateway to the north.
“When Tripoli grows, Lebanon grows with it,” said Salam. The projects are expected to create several thousand jobs and open up lasting new economic prospects for the region.
Swiss Barakah Charity is funding the economic zone’s administrative headquarters – the administrative heart from which the entire project is managed. In doing so, Swiss Barakah deliberately goes beyond classic emergency aid: instead of providing only short-term relief, the organisation invests in structures that help an entire region in the long term – through jobs, income and economic independence. This way, people are not only supported but enabled to stand on their own feet.

“As Swiss Barakah Charity, we do more than provide direct emergency aid. Here we are helping to rebuild an entire region economically – with jobs and real prospects. When we help lay the foundations for business and work, we create hope for thousands of families, far beyond today.”
— Mohamad Ajami, CEO of Swiss Barakah Charity
An expanded port, new transport links, a functioning economic zone: projects like this make a difference for years. New jobs and income give the people of northern Lebanon an economic future – help that lasts. Swiss Barakah Charity’s part in such a development process shows how the organisation sees its responsibility: not just carrying people through the next day, but helping them build a future.
